Seven Lanterns Foundation
Always Helping. Est. 2021
Carrying forward a legacy of care.
In the early twentieth century, seven sisters left Pniel and made their way to the Cape Flats, carrying with them a spirit of resilience and care for community that would outlast them. Seven Lanterns Foundation was founded in 2021 to honour that legacy, not as a monument, but as a living practice.
We are dedicated to illuminating the lives of those in need across the Cape Flats by providing essential resources, fostering community partnerships and promoting sustainable development.
Our Current FocusOur current focus
Six areas of ongoing work across the Cape Flats, each one active right now.
Caretaker support
Our mosque caretaker recently survived a violent assault and robbery. We're working to secure their income while they recover.
Feeding scheme
With Markaz Darul Quran, we support over 100 children daily with meals, plus weekly food distribution to families in need.
Education & Qur'ans
We sponsor desks, stationery and Qur'ans for local schools and madrassahs.
Mosque restoration
After storm damage in 2024, we've repaired blinds, paint, carpets and walls, and continue fundraising for a full extension.
Community kitchen
Support here keeps pots, storage and supplies running smoothly, week after week.
Outings & experiences
This year we took children to Muizenberg beach, the first time many had ever seen the sea.
"Seven lanterns, once carried by seven sisters, now carried by everyone who chooses to help."
We chose the name Seven Lanterns because light is never kept for oneself, it is only useful when it's held up for someone else to see by. Every meal, every desk, every rebuilt wall is another lantern lit.
A curated look at our work
A small selection from the feeding scheme, our facilities, and this year's outings.
Every gift becomes another lantern lit.
Your donation goes directly into the feeding scheme, education sponsorships, mosque repairs, and our caretaker's support fund.
